SNMP Monitoring that’s easy to set-up and use

Domotz offers a comprehensive and powerful SNMP monitoring tool including a free trial. Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) is a network management and monitoring protocol.

The main use for SNMP is monitoring devices on a network, such as firewalls, routers, switches, servers, printers, bridges, NAS drives, UPS, and more.

In a few words, SNMP allows devices from different manufacturers to share information with network monitoring tools. You can use an SNMP monitoring tool to monitor and track specific and useful device information.

SNMP monitoring with Pre-configured sensors

We all know that configuring SNMP monitoring can be tedious and time-consuming. Our SNMP monitoring tool is here to help! With our Pre-configured SNMP sensors you can easily start monitoring your devices in minutes, without any difficult configuration process.

Apply SNMP monitoring to multiple devices with a single click.

Our SNMP monitoring features help you understand, check, and monitor all SNMP sensors applied on various devices.

  • Sensors: instantly see which devices have one or more SNMP sensors set. Visualize this information across multiple networks
  • Insights: you can’t monitor every device using the SNMP protocol. Immediately understand which devices you can monitor with SNMP

Another option for monitoring devices across multiple sites, whether they support SNMP or not is by creating your own Monitoring Dashboard.

SNMP Monitoring Configuration

Credentials Manager - SNMP Authentication

Domotz SNMP monitoring supports all major versions (v1, v2, v3) of SNMP.

  • SNMP v1: is the original version of the Simple Network Management Protocol and was designed to monitor devices over TCP/IP networks
  • SNMP v2: is very similar to SNMP v1, but it supports 64-bit messages to serve growing networks and increased usage
  • SNMP v3: was introduced in 1998, and compared with the previous SNMP versions, its setup is more complex and provides enhanced security by introducing the two concepts of Authentication and Encryption

If your devices use default community strings, Domotz will automatically gather SNMP information to classify your devices. Afterwards you can define the SNMP sensors as you need to.

If you use custom SNMP community strings, you can set-up Domotz SNMP authentication for the whole network or customize it for each device.

SNMP Monitoring for all your devices

Pre-configured SNMP Sensor - Printer Supplies Table QNAP available Pre-configured SNMP Sensors Pre-configured SNMP Sensors - QNAP Hard Disk, Volumes table, Network interfaces table and NAS basic info

Our powerful SNMP monitoring tool lets you monitor specific OIDs (Object Identifier), browse for a particular MIB (Management Information Database), or apply Pre-configured SNMP sensors.

Currently, we support Pre-configured SNMP sensors for Printers, UPS, NAS, Network Interfaces, Cisco and Synology NAS. We will continue to work on adding more and more Pre-configured SNMP sensors.

Here’s a short description of the capabilities of each SNMP monitoring sensor.

  1. Printers - with Pre-configured SNMP sensors for printers, you can monitor toner cartridge levels, drum units, supply levels on your printers, and more.
  2. UPS - with Pre-configured SNMP sensors for UPS, you can get battery status, voltage, current, temperature, estimated remaining minutes, and charge level.
  3. NAS - with Pre-configured SNMP sensors for NAS, you will get the number of hard disks, volumes, CPU usage, CPU or system temperature, available memory, and much more. These details will be shown in three separate views:
    • Basic Info Table including CPU Usage, CPU Temperature, Total Available Memory, Free Memory, Uptime, System Temperature, Number of Hard disks, Volumes, and Last Error Message
    • Hard Disks Table including details about Hard Disks, Description, Status, Capacity, Info, Temperature, and Model
    • Volumes Table will display Volumes, Description, Free Size, Total Size, Filesystem, and Status
  4. Network Interfaces - these sensors will let you know more about the device and properties like operational status, inbound/outbound traffic, inbound/outbound errors, MTU, Speed and more.
  5. Cisco FAN and Power Supply monitor
  6. Synology RAID Volumes, SMART disk, and basic info

Additionally, you can configure alerts and notifications on all the above variables based on thresholds you define. Gain insight into device performance and availability to ensure the health of your devices and networks.

SNMP Monitoring for Sensor Data

SNMP Pre-confingured sensors - Temperature history

In addition to our Pre-configured SNMP templates, our SNMP monitoring tool also allows you to configure any SNMP sensors you need manually.

Our SNMP monitoring tool automatically references thousands of MIBs. This means you can easily find the MIB associated with the device you need to monitor. Simply type the name of the sensor you want to monitor and we’ll automatically retrieve the OIDs.

To add an OID manually, just enter the OID and associate its output type for the sensor.

After you complete a sensor configuration we’ll list them with the value the device returns for an OID. Domotz starts tracking these sensors regularly and historically graphs these values for up to 30 days.

SNMP Monitoring for Room Temperature and Humidity

You can also use our SNMP monitoring tool for monitoring room temperature and humidity. Know when the temperature and humidity values of a room rise or fall, set alerts and be notified when critical values change.

Temperature and humidity monitoring is especially useful for server rooms where critical equipment is. Server room temperature monitoring is of growing interest to MSPs and IT professionals since these rooms store the most critical network equipment.

In addition, you can set up SNMP sensor triggers to generate alerts which automatically open tickets, send notifications through WebHooks and generate emails as appropriate.
